Development of a Scintillating Fibre Detector for HERA-B
نویسندگان
چکیده
A fibre detector with multianode PM readout for high rate applications was developed for the HERA-B spectometer to cover the area near the beampipe. Such a detector has to operate at particle rates up to 2 ⋆ 10 mms and has to tolerate a radiation dosis up to 1 Mrad/y. The light output of test detectors with different scintillating fibres was measured as well as the light transport through clear fibres to the PM as a function of radiation dosis and different conditions of irradiation. The geometry of the detector is described and results for a full size prototype are presented.

Response of a scintillating fibre detector to proton and pion beams at GSI
The HERMES collaboration at DESY will install a new recoil detector surrounding its target region for the envisaged final two years of the HERA II running period aiming at detecting recoiling nucleons from hard exclusive scattering [1, 2]. Protons and Pions with momenta p > 250 MeV/c will be detected and identified by a two–barrel scintillating fibre tracker (SFT). It consists of two barrels ma...
متن کاملIn-beam tests of scintillating fibre detectors at MAMI and at GSI
The performance of scintillating fibre detectors was studied with electrons at the spectrometer facility of the Mainz microtron MAMI, as well as in a C beam of 2AGeV energy and in a beam of different particle species at GSI. Multi-anode photomultipliers were used to read out one or more bundles of 128 fibres each in different geometries. For electrons a time resolution of FWHM ∼ 1 ns was measur...
متن کاملThe H1 Forward Proton Spectrometer at HERA
The forward proton spectrometer is part of the H1 detector at the HERA collider. Protons with energies above 500 GeV and polar angles below 1 mrad can be detected by this spectrometer. The main detector components are scintillating fiber detectors read out by position-sensitive photo-multipliers. These detectors are housed in so-called Roman Pots which allow them to be moved close to the circul...
متن کاملA first study of a scintillating fibre detector for a muon ionisation cooling experiment
For the cooling experiment currently under investigation, it is necessary to track muons in a magnetic field with a precision of at least 0.2mm. A minimum of multiple scattering should be introduced by the measurement process. We investigate a detector made of three layers of 0.5mm square cross section scintillating fibres, which contributes only 0.4% of a radiation length to multiple scatterin...
متن کاملFuture use of silicon photomultiplier for Kaos at MAMI and PANDA at FAIR
A characterisation of recently developed SiPM was performed in view of their possible application with scintillating fibres. The use of SiPM as part of the fibre tracking detector system of the Kaos spectrometer at MAMI was studied. A concept of similar SiPM/fibre assemblies is being considered for the time-of-flight start detector in the PANDA experiment for the FAIR project. In summary, the d...
